2. Safe and proper use of Fire Extinguishers
About Course
This course provides practical guidance on the safe and correct use of fire extinguishers in the workplace. Participants will learn about the different classes of fire, the types of fire extinguishers available, and when it is safe to attempt to tackle a fire.
The training explains how firefighting equipment is provided in accordance with Regulations, and how staff should respond if a small fire occurs. Learners will also learn the correct technique for using portable extinguishers and the important safety considerations that must be taken before attempting to fight a fire.
The course is designed to give employees the knowledge needed to respond appropriately in the early stages of a fire while maintaining personal safety and supporting safe evacuation procedures.
This course provides awareness-level training and does not replace practical hands-on extinguisher training where required.
Who should attend
This course is suitable for employees who may be expected to use portable fire extinguishers as part of their workplace fire safety arrangements. It is designed for staff who could be required to respond to a small fire in its early stages, provided it is safe to do so, and who need to understand the correct and safe use of firefighting equipment. The training supports organisations in ensuring that staff are familiar with the extinguishers provided in their workplace and know how to use them appropriately.
